Angels Around Me

I usually don't write posts on Sunday, because I try & reserve them for my little family.
But last night...something happened and I just had to share it...because it was literally a miracle
----------------------------
Yesterday, I was so excited, because I finally got to have my hair done and get some "me time"! I went to my salon, got my hair did (which felt so good), then decided to stop at the mall on my way home. When I came out of the mall, it was POURING rain. I mean, like extreeeeme raining. Along with the scariest lightning & LOUDEST thunder I have probably ever heard.
I ran to my car, started driving, and got on the freeway.

There was probably about 4 inches of rain on the freeway, so I was definitely being cautious and driving slower than I normally do (speed demon over here). I was actually in the lane almost to the far right of the freeway (which is also very unlike me--you can find me in the "fast lane" 99% of the time).

I was ho-humming along to "Ho Hey" by the Lumineers, which is an important moment in my mind, because right as they sang "HO HEY" (I'll never forget that)...shiz hit the fan. My car started spinning around completely out of my control. The wheel was spinning and spinning and all I could do was sit and wait for what was inevitably about to be a huge accident. I had hyrdroplaned on the crazy slick road, and spun around FIVE times. As I was spinning, I remember thinking:

"Oh my gosh, I'm going to hit someone"
"Holy **** I'm going to die"
"Ok...ok...breathe...try to stay calm"

I finally (after what seemed like a lifetime) came to a complete stop about 3 inches away from the
side cement median. I was unharmed and so was everyone else around me.

I'm sure to every car around me, it happened super fast. But for me, it was if I was spinning in extreme slow motion. I can remember every thought I had, every moment of sheer panic, even the thought when my Dad's voice came into my head saying, "if you ever hydroplane, let off the brake & the gas, and try to control the wheel as best you can." And I did.

After I came to a stop, I looked to my left, and to my right. I was sideways on the freeway, blocking the two right lanes. I had miraculously not hit anyone, and no one had hit me. Which in and of itself was a miracle, because the freeway was PACKED with cars. After I had gathered myself enough to start thinking sane again, I noticed a white suburban had stopped to help, had put their flashers on, and was blocking the two lanes I was in (so no other cars would hit me). If I had been in the right frame of mind, I would've gotten out and ran to them and hugged them for being my angels. But all I could think about was getting my car out of the two lanes of oncoming traffic.

But my car was stalled, and wouldn't start. Suddenly, I look up, and there is a green truck pulled over to the right side of me, and a man is running, in the pouring rain, towards me. I couldn't even move to open the door I was shaking so bad. He opened my door and asked me if I was ok. I managed to say yes, and got out a Thank You I think too. He told  me to let my car sit for a minute and then try and start it again. So I did. It started, and I think I said thank you again.
I backed up, and then started driving away.

When I looked behind me, the green truck & the white suburban were guiding following me off the freeway, towards my house. Maybe they had to go that way too, but for some reason, I felt like they were my guardian angels. I wish I knew their names so I could send them something or give them hug at the very least.

Even if you don't believe in angels, they do come in so many forms. I feel like they were around me last night. Protecting me, guiding me, helping me..because they knew. They just knew I had a family I needed to get home to. A family I so desperately love.
A family that if something had happened to me, would be devastated.
It's moments in life like that, that make me truly realize how thankful & blessed I am.

So thank you, you beautiful angels...you have no idea how thankful I am for you.

  7. I have had a few scary experiences similar to this myself. Once I spun out of control on ice as I was entering a highway. I had no control, and I know what you mean about everything seeming to happen in slow motion. I was so fortunate that no one was coming down the hill on the interstate I was entering when it happened. I would have been slammed.
A second time I saw a car coming across the median when I was driving on a major highway. At first, I just thought they were illegally turning around because it was rush hour & traffic was backed up. But I realized they were going entirely too fast for it to be that. Then I realized the car was headed straight for me! I sped up and got over as close to the other lane as I could. Her car hit the embankment, went airborne, and landed about 200 feet behind me. The man in the car behind me who she landed in front of died instantly.
I do truly believe there were angels protecting me both of those times... <3 In particular, the grandmother I never got to meet because she died before I was born.

  9. I'm so glad you are ok, that is scary. I did that on bangerter highway once, luckily nobody else was around. I got teary eyed when you talked about them following you home and them being your "guardian angels." Isn't it great that although there are some yucky people in this world, there are also some pretty great ones too?

  14. wow how scary! I had something like that once. A tire blew out on the highway and wrapped around the axel. The brakes wouldn't work and I ended up going through all lanes on the side of the road I was on, into the median, into the OTHER side of traffic, and back into the median just before a HUGE ditch. within the next couple minutes traffic both ways was VERY packed. it's a miracle we didn't hit anyone

  20. SO CRAZY! A similar thing happened to me once; my friend's car, with me and another friend in it, spun around like once or twice on our way home on a college break one time. Probably the most terrifying moment in my life. I'm so glad you're okay! I truly believe angels are around to get involved at times like these.

I also had a miracle happen today! I wrote about it and cited you too : ) http://passengerseatperspectives.blogspot.com/2012/09/miracles.html

  24. I am so glad you're all right! Oddly enough, a very similar thing happened to a friend of mine a few days ago. She hit the median and actually flipped her car before it spun repeatedly. She didn't hit anyone, and she escaped with only a sore neck and a Harry Potter scratch on her head. The car is totaled. The ER staff couldn't believe how good of shape she was in, and like you, she knows she had angels on her side.

Be well, rest up, love on your family big time, and enjoy the rest of the weekend. Love you, Jenna!

  32. First of all I am so glad you are OK. This story gave me chills because the SAME thing happened to me about 7 years ago. I was in San Diego and we were driving back to a friend's house (ok, we were in Tijuana for the night, I cannot lie) and I was driving someone else's stick shift car and it started HAILING in SD and I hydroplaned and spun out of control and hit the center divide going about 50. We were all pretty hurt, the car was totaled and the weirdest thing happened... right after I hit the wall, I looked up and there was a man standing in the center divide in jeans and a black sweatshirt with the hood on. He was about a foot away from my broken side window and he just said "are you OK?" and I said yeah and then I turned to look at the others in the car, kind of like do you guys see this guy here? And when I turned back around, he was gone. Across 5 lanes of traffic, at 2am. It couldn't have been more than 3 seconds that I looked away. It was the most insane experience of my life. There was no explanation as to why this guy was gone when I turned back. There was no car anywhere, nothing.
Accidents are so scary and it is so nice and reassuring that there are still good people in this world who would stop to help.
