Guest Post: Kerrie from The Williams Post

Hi all! While I am soaking up the sunshine in Hawaii (sorry :), I am going to be having a couple of wonderful guest posters! I hope you will stay and read their BEAUTIFUL stories!

Today, we have the lovely Kerrie from The Williams Post. She is absolutely gorgeous, and not to mention one of the sweetest people I have met. Her story today is so INSPIRING..you just can't help but love her too!

Hey all you Life of the Wife readers!  I want to say THANK YOU Jenna for asking me to guest post!  You and your readers are the bomb.com (yes, I'm really that cheesy.)

So, after thinking about what I wanted to share, it became obvious to me that I should blog about the fact that I don't know SQUAT.

Makes ya wanna keep reading doesn't it?

Lemme 'splain.
I'll start at the end and move backwards.

I love Mexico.

Nah, let me start at the beginning instead.

I have wanted to be a missionary (one of those crazy people who live in a 3rd world country, living on rice and beans, telling people about Jesus) for about as long as I can remember.

And I always knew... KNEW... that I was going to be single like Mother Teresa, move to Africa after college, and never look back.  I knew this so much that when I was required to take a language course in college, I took French instead of Spanish because, and I quote, "God is never going to send me to Mexico."

Lesson #1 - Don't tell God what He's gonna do.

While in college, I was invited to go to Mexico, and I did not want to go. Not. One. Bit.
But for some reason, I went anyways.  It's there that I met my husband and fell in love with a people that, more than 5 years later, are my close family and friends.

Still, I "knew" that I was going to go to Africa, and made sure to tell the new-boyfriend that I would date him on ONE condition: He was not allowed to do anything that would make me want to stay.

And he didn't.  He was so supportive!  I tried and tried to get my ticket to Africa -- to find some organization to go with -- and time after time doors shut in my face.

All the while, my heart grew for Mexico and for Wade.
It was in Mexico when I finally got the call to go to Africa.

No, I don't mean a call from God.
Literally -- my phone rang and the person on the other end asked if I wanted to go!  While I was away, Wade had met someone and set the whole thing up! (What a great boyfriend!)

This was IT! -- Well, it was only a week -- but this was the start of "it!" I just knew it.
There I go "knowing" stuff again!

I got to the beautiful country of Uganda and spent my days going hut-to-hut, telling people about Jesus (of whom they'd never heard!  See more, here.)

But I spend my nights crying. Every night.

I missed Mexico. I missed the people God had placed in my life there. And God gently showed me that He knows everything, and I know nothing.  (In fact, this "sure to be single" girl was proposed to the minute I got home from that trip!)

You see, God called me to be a missionary. Not to choose where, how, and to whom I ministered!

The moral of the story is this:
He has great and wonderful plans for you. So don't go mucking them up with plans of your own -- they are nothing compared to His!

Thanks again Jenna for letting me share a little piece of me with your readers!

  6. Somewhere deep in our souls, we all know that God truly is in charge. But in our very human brains, we need to be reminded again and again and again. Thanks for reminding me.
